July 11, 1942 First formal decoration ceremony held in Eighth Air Force takes place when General Spaatz pins the Distinguished Service Cross on Major Charles C. Kegelman for extraordinary gallantry and heroism during the raid of July 4.
July 11, 1942 Four B-24's taking off for weather, bombing and photo mission to Kiska are attacked by seaplane fighters. No losses. A cruiser is bombed with unobserved results.
