September 1, 1942 P-40's hit Japanese headquarters at Wagga Wagga on Milne Bay while P-40's strafe kokoda and Kokoda Pass in the Owen Stanley Range. Australian ground forces continue slow retreat over the range but make progress in Milne Bay offensive.
September 1, 1942 U.S. forces complete occupation of Adak.
