World War II Photograph: USS Menges (DE-320), her stern blown off by a Nazi torpedo in the Mediterrean in May of 1944.  Workmen grafted the stern of another torpedoed destroyer, USS Holder (DE-401), to her as it rested in a drydock at the New York Navy Yard during the grafting operation.
