World War II Photograph from Battle of Saipan

World War II Photograph: This battered, shell-pocked wreck was a Japanese landing barge before it was in the fury of the American assault upon Saipan in the Marianas. Sprawling grotesquely in death at the feet of a U.S. Marine are three Japanese who fell in the crushing sweep of American soldiers, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and sailors.
